He asks Gabe to go with him to a party. One of those parties, the ones they don't tell Pope or anyone else about. And he finds a nice enough guy.

But it goes sideways. Austin thrashes and fights and gets thrown right out of the house, and Gabe is told grimly not to bring Austin back.

Which leaves Austin on the curb smoking, hating life.

"You can go play if you want," he mutters to Gabe. "I can wait."
