He forgets, often, that Gabe can't read texts. He takes for granted that Gabe can get them read to him by an app or an onlooker.

So it's late at night, beyond midnight, when he texts, "I'm about to be arrested you down to pick me up? I got cash to bail me out at my apartment."

Gabe huffs. "Course he did. You're lucky that shit didn't get infected."

It's said fondly, though. He's come to like the kids.

"No it did," he grimaces. "It was gross. But that one corpsman, Lopez, was great. Didn't have to get my dick chopped off and I got to keep the jewelry after it healed."

Oh, goddamn. Gabe elbows him at that, huffing. "Shit, man. You got real lucky. Also, never tell Shaw that, she'd blow a gasket."

He laughs. "Oh man can you picture her face? she woulda been so mad if the thing that kept me from work was a broke dick."

"I can picture it real clear," Gabe teases, and flicks Austin's arm. "Goddamn, that woman's scary. Hey, what's it feel like when you fuck somebody?"

"It feels so good! I'm like extra sensitive because of it. Sex is like, mind blowing now. Turner had no idea the favor he was doing me when we put that thing in." He nudges Gabe. "Hey you should pierce your nipples!"

Gabe huffs at that. He’s never really thought about piercings before, beyond having his ears done. “Maybe. It’s nice when people play with ‘em. Don’t really want folks to make a thing of it when I’m training, though.”

Pope definitely would.

"Oh yeah. Yeah you don't want that. And you grapple sometimes right? Don't want someone yanking a piercing out by mistake. Well damn. I was gonna do em for you right here." He pets Gabe's chest.

Yeeesh. That’d hurt if they got yanked during grappling. Gabe huffs, pressing a lazy kiss to Austin’s chest. Tasting the salt there. “I’ll let you put clamps on me sometime, if you wanna.”

"Hell yeah I wanna. I like making you squirm," he chuckles, stroking Gabe's hair with his fingertips.

Gabe hums at that, nuzzling against him. "Brat," he murmurs fondly. "Bet you'd be good at it, too."

He's been called many things by many people but brat is new and makes him grin. Yeah he likes that just fine. "I bet there's all kinds of stuff we could get up to together if you're into nipple clamps."

“I like to get fucked all kinds of ways,” Gabe agrees, nuzzling against him. This E is great, goddamn. “What’d you into?”

"I like getting high and fucking a lot," he says, as if that isn't obvious from this same night. Gabe's skin is so soft under his fingertips, he can feel little tracers of energy with every caress.

"I like spanking. And- oh, oh! This edible stuff Rochelle used to get for us, we'd do massages with it and then lick it off."

Gabe hums at that, trailing his fingers lightly over Austin’s chest. Feeling for scars, learning the shape of him inch by inch. It’s an intimacy that Gabe can’t often stand from other people, especially when they try to give it to him after they fucked. Like they want to keep him there, tied to them for even a moment. Usually, it makes his skin crawl.

There's a shrapnel scar on his ribs that makes him shiver when Gabe touches it. "I got to go home for two months after I got that one," he says. "They kept me in Germany and then let me go on leave."

"Must've been nice," Gabe murmurs, pressing his fingers very gently against it. Feeling the shape of the scar, trying to memorize it. To know this man at least in small ways, so he'll have something to carry afterward. "They gave us leave sometimes in the Wolves, but I didn't have anywhere to go, really."

In a different world, he had his fire team for a while. Not in this one. He's always been alone.

"You do anything special with it?"

"Went home to the girl and the baby. Tried to patch things up. It worked, 'cause I was hurt and she felt bad about it. I wanted to take us on a vacation but I was not walking so good yet so she made us stay home, and it was real nice." A faint sigh. "If I'd known you we coulda taken leave together. Gone and done some real dumb shit, we woulda had so much fun."

Sounds real nice, Gabe thinks, a little wistfully. He had a family for a while, but it ended the way it ended. By the time it was done, his brothers didn't want him anymore. Anything that followed was temporary, tied to sex. Until this, he thinks. Until Carver and Mancea and the Reapers, and this.

He leans in and kisses the scar very gently.

"We woulda," Gabe agrees softly. "I would've gotten you into so much goddamn trouble."

It twists up in his chest, that little kiss does. He strokes Gabe's hair, feeling light and giddy and good. "We still could. We could time our leaves together. I mean I don't have the baby to get home to anymore... I need to have some fun or I'll go crazy thinking about her. Did you ever want kids, Fify?"

"Nah," Gabe murmurs, and rests against Austin with a sigh. Kissing his skin, nipping oh so lightly. "I'd be a terrible father. Where're you gonna take me, hmm?"

He's not meant for a family. Some people just aren't.

Austin tries his hardest whenever he has Alana to look after but secretly he thinks he's a pretty terrible father. If he wasn't, he'd still have a family.

He lets himself be distracted by the nip and that question. "I'd take you to Amsterdam, man. Like Vegas but even better, I think like, everything is legal there. Everything."

"Mhmm. Everything, huh?" Gabe presses his mouth to Austin's skin, sucking a hickey there. It feels good. Everything does right now. And it's easier, isn't it, than trying to talk about all the ways they failed their families. "Paint me a picture."

The E is starting to wear off but not yet, it's still strong enough he groans with pleasure at the mark Gabe leaves.

"Keep doing that and I will," he promises. "I see us doing all the finest weed and going to the Red Light district where we share some cute little twink who likes to be spanked. What're you into anyway?"
